The decade preceding the establishment of Sequoia and General Grant National parks in 1890 was one of controversy and turbulence. From an experiment in socialism to the felling of the massive giant sequoias, few experienced life in both areas. One young photographer and his family did. Riding from place to place on a donkey carrying forty-five pounds of photography equipment, C.C. Curtis captured the early history of the area like no one else. In 2009 rare images and lost glass plate negatives were discovered completing the story of this man’s incredible journey. Over 125 rare photographs are just part of this inspirational story. Published 2009.
